A Brief History
Nowadays it is mainly used to create a unique and tactile feel to invitations and stationery, but can be applied to anything from posters to greetings cards.
This was the everyday printing technique used since its invention by Johannes Gutenberg in the mid-15th century until the 1960’s when the litho printing press took over as the primary means of printing and distributing information. Even today, litho printing is seeing a decline in use and a firm changing of the guard over to the digital printing press which can print straight from the computer screen.
